Simples Sunday meets LIM (on a Saturday!)

If you saw my post yesterday you will know that the picture on the left was the inspiration for this week's LIM challenge.

I needed to make a card for my Simples Sunday post so I decided to combine it with another card for the challenge.

This time I used the bow on the shoes for my inspiration and replicated it with some Basic Black Taffeta ribbon and some strategically placed glue dots!

The panel down the side of the card is simply a piece of Very Vanilla with some narrow strips of Basic Black cardstock fixed on with sticky strip (you could use DSP to make it even quicker but this is an alternative if you don't have the right paper!) The sentiment from Label Love was stamped in Basic Black and punched out with the co-ordinating Artisan Label punch then fixed to the card with dimensionals.
My apologies for posting Simple Sunday a little early but, where I would normally schedule the post, I needed to link it to the LIM site - hence Saturday night!!

Less is More Inspiration

You may well be wondering what these gorgeous shoes have to do with cardmaking well they are this week's Inspiration picture for the LIM challenge.

Now, as I don't own any shoe stamps, I used the colours and the tall slim image as the inspiration for my card. Come and take a look

I used a Naturals Ivory card base with a panel of Basic Black and Very Vanilla running down the left side. For the stripes I simply scored a few lines down the length of the Very Vanilla before attaching it to the black. I stamped the sentiment tag from Chalk Talk and cut it out with the co-ordinating framelit. This was then fixed to the card and a piece of Basic Black Taffeta ribbon attached to the top with glue dots. The flower from Stippled Blossoms was stamped in Basic Black and fussy cut with paper snips then added to the card with a dimensional.
A really quick and simple card but one which I am (unusually) quite pleased with.

The weather forecast for today in this part of the country says rain but, at the moment, it's looking quite good. Temperatures are down a fair bit which suits me down to the ground. I don't function well at high temperatures - though, having said that, I'm not too sure that I function very well at any temperature these days :0)
Whatever you're doing and whatever the weather have a good weekend. Thanks for stopping by and I'll be back soon x

Treat Box and Matching Card

I made a couple of these treat boxes to give as thank you gifts and, as you can see, a matching card to go with them. I saw a tutorial for the boxes on Caroline Hallet's blog (a fellow SU demo) and the video can be seen here. (Thanks for sharing Caroline)

I used Sahara Sand for both the card and the box with the leaves, from Summer Silhouettes, stamped in Pear Pizzazz and the flower, from Stippled Blossoms, in Raspberry Ripple.
For the card I also used a piece of Sahara Sand DSP (retired), a tag cut with one of the Chalk Talk Framelits and added Pear Pizzazz Taffeta Ribbon to both.
Back soon x

Notes case

This is a small gift I have made for a very good friend who is leaving school to complete his teacher training (fingers crossed he will be back next year!). His name isn't really Giz, that's just what everyone calls him!
I bought these cases last year and they have been sitting in my craft room ever since so I thought I would have a go at making a 'notes box'. I have to say it has taken me ages to make as I just didn't know how to decorate it but, as I had to have it ready by today, I decided to get a move on with it on Sunday.
I have used Midnight Muse DSP and cardstock to decorate the case and cover the notepads and the 'brainstorming' cover was made by using computer generated words punched with the Cupcake Builder Punch. I put a little magnetic board inside (bottom right) by running a piece of a drinks can through the Square Lattice Embossing Folder which was then glued to a larger piece of cardstock. The magnets were made by cutting some thick chipboard with the Circles Die, covered with DSP and a magnet glued on the back. A few Glimmer Paper stars were added to finish. I can't honestly say I'm thrilled with the result but, as they say, it's the thought that counts and I'm sure he'll appreciate it anyway - well I hope so :0)

Large Size Leaving Card

I can now show you the second 'large' card I was asked to make for a friend and work colleague who is leaving. The card blank was made from an A3 sheet of white card, folded to give an A4 card. I used Cherry Cobbler (a firm favourite of mine!) and stamped the flowers with a couple of images from Flower Shop - the larger ones were punched with the Pansy Punch and the smaller ones fussy cut with paper snips. I stamped some leaves with a stamp from Summer Silhouettes and diecut some with the Little Leaves Sizzlits die and added a few white blooms punched with the Boho Blossoms punch. The 'bye' was cut from some, now retired, DSP and Cherry Cobbler cardstock using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz dies and the name from the retired Timeless Type Junior Alphabet dies. A few stamped and punched butterflies from Papillon Potpourri were added to the top corner.
The photo bottom right is the bag/box I made to put the card in.
I will be back in the next few days to show you some of the small gifts I have made for the friends who are leaving this week. x

Simples Sunday and LIM (again!)

Well it's Sunday again - where do the weeks go? I have combined my 'Simples Sunday' card with the LIM challenge which, this week, is Handmade Flowers. My entry yesterday really were 'handmade' flowers but I feel like I'm cheating a bit today because these flowers were so easy to make using punches.
I stamped an image from the Flower Shop set three times, using Crisp Cantaloupe, and punched out with the Pansy Punch and the centres are from the Boho Blossoms punch in Whisper White and Crisp Cantaloupe. I shaped the flower parts individually with the end of my pricking tool using a firm, circular motion, glued them together and a Basic Pearl was added to the centres.
An aperture was cut in a piece of white cardstock using one of the Apothecary Accents Framelits, with a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock placed behind before matting onto a card blank. All that was needed to finish the card was the sentiment from Sassy Salutations stamped in Baked Brown Sugar.

Handmade Flowers for LIM

I struck lucky with the LIM challenge this week, which is 'Handmade Flowers'. These little roses have been sitting abandoned on my desk for the past couple of weeks after deciding I needed far too many for the oversized card I had been asked to make!
They are made with a couple of different size Scallop Circle punches and are cut and rolled to form a rose - these are made with So Saffron and Very Vanilla.
I used one of the ovals from the Ovals Collection Framelits to cut an aperture in a piece of cardstock then stamped the leaves from Summer Silhouettes in Pear Pizzazz. This was then fixed to the card blank before adding the roses and a few leaves punched with the Bird Builder punch. The card was finished with a simple sentiment from Field Flowers stamped in So Saffron.
Have a great weekend - thankfully it is going to be a little cooler before the return of the heatwave next week!

Coastal Cabana Mosaic

I'm sorry I haven't posted for a couple of days but I have been busy making cards and gifts for work colleagues who will be leaving school next week. Anyway back today with a card made with the lovely new colours, Coastal Cabana and Smoky Slate, along with the Mosaic Madness co-ordinating products. I started by partial embossing a panel of Whisper White with the Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder. Then, using my stamp-a-ma-jig, I stamped images from the Mosaic Madness set and finished off with a border at the bottom of the embossed section, again from Mosaic Madness. The sentiment is from Bring on the Cake and stamped in Coastal Cabana. the panel was matted and layered onto Coastal Cabana cardstock and a white card blank. To finish the card I stamped another mosaic image and punched this out with the Mosaic Punch and added it to the card using dimensionals.
I hope you are all enjoying the heatwave although, dare I say, it's far too hot for me! But then I am one of these people who moan when it's freezing and moan when it's hot - never satisfied some would say :0)
Back soon x

Door hanger Treat Box

This is another item we made at our class last week and is a treat box which can be hung on a door. How impressed would your guests be if they found this filled with treats hanging on the their bedroom door?
It is made with Baked Brown Sugar, Chocolate Chip and Pistachio Pudding cardstock. The Pistachio Pudding cardstock was stamped with a butterfly from Papillon Potpourri before being layered onto the box.The hanging part was punched with the largest circle punch and the trim punched from the largest scallop circle punch. To decorate the front a stamp from Mixed Bunch was stamped in Baked Brown Sugar onto Very Vanilla and then punched with the co-ordinating Blossom punch. Another butterfly sits in the middle of the flower and is stamped, again in Baked Brown Sugar, and coloured in with Pistachio Pudding using a blender pen. All finished off with a sentiment from Bring on the Cake.
It looks like it's going to be another scorcher this week and I'm not much looking forward to having to go to work in it - never mind just over a week to go and then it will be the school holidays when I expect it will turn cold or wet again :0)

Simples Sunday

My 'simple' card for today uses a flower stamp from a new set called Flower Shop along with a leaf stamp from Stippled Blossoms. The flowers were stamped with Raspberry Ripple, then stamped again without re-inking to give a lighter flower. The leaves and sentiment, from Bring on the Cake, were stamped with Pear Pizzazz. Another flower was stamped onto a scrap of Whisper White and punched out using the co-ordinating Pansy Punch then fixed onto the card with a dimensional. A knot of Raspberry Ripple Stitched Satin ribbon was placed across the bottom corner after matting onto Raspberry Ripple cardstock and then layered onto a white card blank. A Basic Pearl added to the centre of the punched flower finished the card.
It's promising to be another very hot day today so, whatever you are doing, have a great day and don't forget that sunscreen!

Soft Sky Butterflies

I know that Saturday is usually 'Less is More' day but today I don't have time to craft so I am posting a card the ladies made at class the other day. It's made with the lovely new colour, Soft Sky, and the Papillon Potpourri stamp set (again!).
The strip running down the card was punched at one end using the Artisan Label punch and then run through the Stripes Embossing folder. The butterflies were stamped in Soft Sky and then punched out using the Elegant Butterfly punch. The sentiment we used is from Perfect Pairs.
Matted and layered onto Soft Sky and a white card blank, a few Basic Rhinestones added and card done!!
If you would like to place an order with me please don't hesitate to get in touch and, don't forget, I am offering free p&p in July with all orders of £50 or more.
Have a lovely weekend, keep cool and I'll be back soon x

Card Swap Group

This is my Card Swap for July and, hopefully, it should have reached Ann by now.
I'm reliably informed that Ann's favourite colour is Pink Pirouette so, despite personally finding pink a very difficult colour to work with (mainly because I don't like it!!) this is the card I've come up with.
The challenge for this month is to make a very small card but definitely no bigger than 4" square and that is exactly what this is.
I embossed a frame using one of the Designer Frames and cut out the centre rectangle using a craft knife. I stuck a piece of Whisper White behind the aperture and stamped a sentiment from Friendly Phrases (retired) in Blushing Bride. The rest is self-explanatory really so I will just give you a list of supplies used rather than bore you to death :0)

Supplies: Pink Pirouette cardstock, ink and Taffeta Ribbon, Blushing Bride ink, Papillon Potpourri and Friendly Phrases stamps, Bitty Butterfly Punch, Designer Frames Embossing Folder, Basic Pearls

Chocolate box

Today I have some little chocolate boxes to show you that I have made for the ladies coming to my class. Made with yet another new colour from SU, Crisp Cantaloupe, and the new Artisan Label Punch.
I have to admit to using a couple of recently retired products i.e a stamp from Tiny Tags punched with the Jewelry Tag punch, but I make no apologies as I love both of these and they will definitely not be things I will part with!!!
The butterflies, from Papillon Potpourri, are stamped in Baked Brown Sugar with the one on the top of the box punched with the Bitty Butterfly Punch. As you can see from the chocolate inside they are tiny, but perfect for a handmade treat for someone special for no particular reason - well we all like a little treat sometimes don't we?

Wednesday 10 July 2013

This is the first of two cards I have been asked to make for work colleagues who are leaving at the end of term. They are A4 size so there is plenty of room for everyone to sign. This one is made using Elegant Eggplant and Certainly Celery (now retired) and the large daisy was cut from the Daisy Die (now retired) with the smaller flowers punched with the Boho Blossoms and Itty Bitty Shapes punches. The leaves are made with the Little Leaves Sizzlits die and leaves punched from the Bird Builder punch and butterflies are a stamp from Papillon Potpourri, punched with the Bitty Butterfly punch. The sentiment is computer generated and the name is cut from the Timeless Type Alphabet Dies (also retired). The picture bottom right shows the bag I made to put the card in.
I will show you the second card when I've finished it!!!

Diamond Anniversary

This card was not made for this week's LIM challenge but it fits the 'Shades of Grey' so why not? A friend asked me to make a card to celebrate a Diamond Wedding Anniversary so I thought I would keep it neutral and just add a bit of sparkle to represent diamonds!!
The leaf from Summer Silhouettes were stamped in Smoky Slate and the 'Happy Anniversary' is from Memorable Moments, stamped in Basic Gray. I cut the 60 from the, now retired, Timeless Type Alphabet dies using Glimmer Paper as well as flowers punched with the Itty Bitty Punch flower shape. This was then matted onto Smoky Slate cardstock, a piece of retired Basic Gray Taffeta Ribbon tied across one corner and then layered onto a white card blank. I added a few 'diamonds' (or should I say Basic Rhinestones) to the flower centres.
I am off to Pizza Hut after work to celebrate my Grandaughter's 3rd birthday so my apologies if there's no post from me tomorrow (Weds) but I'll be back soon x

More Shades of Grey

I don't need much of an excuse to make cards using white, grey or black so the LIM challenge this week - Shades of Grey - is right up my street. For my second entry I have used the Love & Sympathy set with the image stamped in Smoky Slate and the sentiment in Basic Gray. I shaped the corners of the Whisper White and Basic Gray panels using a circle punch and added a knot of Basic Gray Taffeta ribbon (retired) before fixing onto a Smoky Slate card base.
If you came to see this week's Simples Sunday then just scroll down - 2 posts today!!!
Have a good week and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!

Simples Sunday

Today's Simples Sunday card is one I have made for my Mum to give to my youngest grandaughter who will be 3 next week.
I have used a butterfly stamp from Papillon Potpourri and the heart from Create a Cupcake and stamped both in Blushing Bride (another new colour from SU) onto Whisper White, along with a sentiment from Sassy Salutations. This was then matted onto Pink Pirouette cardstock and, before layering onto a white card blank, I tied a piece of Pink Pirouette taffeta ribbon across one corner. Three more butterflies were stamped and punched out with the Bitty Butterfly punch then added on top of the already stamped butterflies. I added a few Basic Rhinestones for a bit of sparkle. Really simple!

Shades of Grey - LIM

The LIM challenge this week is 'Shades of Grey' - and, thankfully, a minimum of 2 not 50 :0)
The two greys I have used here are Basic Gray and Smoky Slate, a brand new colour from Stampin'Up! I started with a Basic Gray card blank and added a panel of Smoky Slate which had been punched twice with another new product - the Artisan Label punch. I added a few score lines at the top and bottom of the panel before fixing into place. The 'Mr & Mrs' is a stamp from a new set (co-ordinating with the punch) called Label Love and the sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Sentiments - both stamped in Basic Gray. A splash of Whisper White was added to the sentiments and two flowers, punched with an Itty Bitty Shapes punch, were added to the apertures. A couple of Basic Rhinestones finished the card.
I hope you have a lovely, what promises to be, a very hot weekend and I'll be back soon x
Edited to add: I have just looked at Lizy's, a fellow team member, entry to LIM this week, and read that tomorrow she is doing the Race for Life. If, like me, you would like to support this worthwhile charity but have not had the chance to do so why not pop over to Lizy's blog where she gives a link to her JustGiving page and sponsor her. Even if it's just £1, as the famous supermarket says - Every little helps!!! Lizy's blog can be found here http://www.creatinandstampin.blogspot.co.uk/

Birthday Dresses

A few weeks ago I made some of these lip salve holders to give as gifts at my class. When my daughter saw them she asked if I would make one for my youngest grandaughter who will be 3 next week. After finding a pack of three fruit flavour lip salves (which she will think is lipstick like Mummy's) I made these three holders using the Dress Up Framelits.
Mt grandaughter often tells us we have to call her Robin - her brother is Batman - and is quite the little tomboy but, now and again, she's very girly and likes all things pink and sparkly hence the dresses. I used some retired Pretty in Pink cardstock and DSP along with some Pink Pirouette DSP and Glimmer Paper and decorated with flowers and ribbons.
I also needed to make a birthday card (below) and chose to make a cake - pink & sparkly so not really my kind of thing but I'm sure she'll love it!

Card Swap Group

Just a very quick post today to share the fabulous card I received from Ann, another member of the card swap group.
Ann is a fellow SU demonstrator and a good friend of Jane, the group organiser. I don't think she has a blog so I can't redirect you but she has certainly made a good job of this card I'm sure you'll agree.
The idea of the group is that each month we receive a card from another member and it's always nice to have a surprise card pop through your door. It particularly cheered me up this time because I developed yet another cold on Sunday so, after being out at (a chilly) school Sports Day all day, I was feeling a bit sorry for myself :0) Thanks Ann x
